Fir is also referred to as white or silver fir because of the white to silvery color of the bark. The wood color can vary from a yellowish-white to reddish-white, a bluish or grey-purple glow can also appear. Under the influence of light Fir wood darkens noticeably and assumes a yellowish-brown or aged tone. Fir wood is similar to spruce in that it is categorised as a softwood with high strength. The annual rings are clearly visible. On the long sides it can show stripes or spades.
